Short description Former Apple headquarters, 3 Savile Row, goes on sale.
Location London

The five-story building that used to be The Beatles' Apple headquarters from 1968 to 1973 goes on sale. Kier Property, the sellers of the property, hopes to sell it as an office. However, The Beatles connection might attract interest to the property. The building, built in 1735 for Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton was sold to The Beatles in 1968 for 500,000 pounds. Apple Studios, which was where some of the Let It Be album was recorded is in the basement of this building. Where the rest of Let It Be was recorded is the rooftop, where The Beatles played their last live concert on January 30, 1969. This performance appears in the Let It Be film. Kier Property expects it to sell for around 25 million pounds. Leigh Thomas, associate director of Kier Property, said this, "It's being marketed internationally. If someone wants a bit of heritage with a bit of history of the band, then this is the place. I still get goose bumps in here. It's the world's biggest piece of memorabilia." For the fortieth anniversary of the rooftop concert, shortly before it went on sale, a Beatles tribute band, The Bootleg Beatles performed two acoustic numbers on the roof, without police permission. They were not allowed to because of safety concerns. Andre Barreau, who plays George in The Bootleg Beatles, said this, "We snuck up there to play a few songs to mark the occasion. We did One After 909 and Get Back, which were a couple of the songs out of the five that The Beatles did. It is a shame. Loads of bands - from U2 to Oasis, apparently - have asked to play up there and we're the only ones who've ever been allowed. But it wasn't to be this time, sadly. Maybe, if we're still going in ten years time." The group got to perform on the roof of the building on the 30th anniversary of the rooftop concert, in 1999.
