[edit] Writng and Recording
The song was written as an homage to Smokey Robinson, who John was a big fan of. It was recorded during the same session that recordings started for I Wanna Be Your Man and Little Child on September 11, 1963. The song was recorded in 14 takes. Take 14 was overdubbed on and called Take 15 afterwards. That is the album version. The song was never played live.
