[edit] Recording
The song is a cover of a 1962 soul single. It was recorded in three takes on February 11, 1963, the day that most of the Please Please Me album was recorded. The last take was considered the best and therefore was the one used on the album. The song had been part of the band's live set since it's original release. On their version, the original piano lick was played by George Harrison on guitar. John, attempting to toughen up the lyrics, removes the word 'darling,' included in the original version. It was rerecorded for BBC radio twice.
