[edit] Original Version
This song, as well as Boys were originally done by The Shirelles and covered by The Beatles. This particular song was written by Burt Bacharach, Luther Dixon (credited as Barney Williams), and Mack David. The Beatles played the song live from 1961 until 1963.
[edit] Recording
The song was recorded on February 11, 1963, in the session in which most of their debut album was recorded. They finished it in just three takes. Because this was the second to last song recorded in that several-hour session, John's vocal strain is apparent in the song. The last one was Twist And Shout. They rerecorded this song for the BBC radio program Pop Goes The Beatles on June 1, 1963. This version was included on Live At The BBC and was subsequently released as a single, along with other BBC recordings that did not make it onto Live At The BBC, such as I'll Follow The Sun, Devil In Her Heart, and Boys.
