The news source This Is London reports that "The compilation album of the Beatles' number one hits - '1' - was the fastest selling in history." This fact was acknowledged by Guinness World Records when they declared "'1', [which was] released on November 13, 2000, sold 13.5 million copies around the world in the first month, making it the fastest selling album." Sales of 1 seemed to still bring in much money, as Apple reported that "pre-tax profits for the year [2002] to last January soared to £18.4m." Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, and Olivia Harrison also made £7.5m each for promotional services charged to the company as well as payments for the use of their name and likenesses". Guiness World Records also states that "The Beatles have amassed the greatest sales for any group. All-time sales have been estimated by EMI at over one billion discs and tapes to date."
