[edit] Introduction
Brisbane is the capital of the Australian state of Queensland. The Beatles visited Queensland on their 1964 Australian tour.
[edit] Arrival in Queensland
The Beatles landed in Brisbane at 12:08am on the 29th of June 1964 on their return to Australia after a week long tour of New Zealand. They were met by a crowd of 8,000 fans. Among the group were a small faction of protesters who described themselves as “anti-materialism” who threw eggs and other projectiles at the group as they toured the airport in an open topped bus.
[edit] Civic Receptions and Other Social Activities
Tired after a long tour and unsettled by the missile-hurling protesters, the Beatles declared they would confine their activities in Brisbane to the hotel and to the venue. They did however manage to sneak out of the hotel on the 30th of June and spend some time enjoying a Gold Coast beach.

The Beatles performed two shows a night (6pm and 8pm) on the 29th and 30th of June at Festival Hall. Each show was attended by 5,500 fans. The setlist for all 4 shows:

The shows were compered by English comedian Alan Field. All shows were opened by Australian instrumental group The Phantoms who stayed onstage as the backing group for New Zealander Johnny Devlin and Australian Johnny Chester. Sounds Incorporated ended the first half of the show, the Beatles performed after a brief intermission.
The same protesters who had hurled things at the Beatles on their way to the hotel were present at the concert on the 29th and again pelted objects at the stage. The Beatles later met with the protesters who formally apologized.
