Writing

The song's lyrics were mostly nonsense. In 1980, Lennon said he considered it to be "another piece of garbage." It's working title was "All I Want Is You," referring to Yoko Ono. Another working title was "Con A Lowry." John said in 1972, "I was just having fun with words. It was literally a nonsense song. You just take words and you stick them together, and you see if they have any meaning. Some of them do and some of them don't."

Recording

Like all songs from the Let It Be album, it was rehearsed repeatedly in January 1969. It was recorded in Apple studio a number of times on January 22, one of which is available on Anthology 3. They attempted the song once more on January 28, which was still not the master version. The master was recorded during the famous rooftop concert on January 30, 1969. The album version has a false start with Ringo Starr yelling "Hold It!" so he can blow his nose. The band then starts the song again.
