| Location | Scala Theatre, London |
On this date, the "TV performance" climax of A Hard Day's Night was filmed before an audience of 350 fans. Due to film union rules, each of the fans had to be paid for their appearance. Within the audience was a thirteen-year-old Phil Collins. The Beatles lip-synched to four songs in the film: Tell Me Why, And I Love Her, I Should Have Known Better, and She Loves You. Other songs were also filmed, including You Can't Do That, but they ended up being unused. During Tell Me Why, director Richard Lester was briefly visible on camera in a shot looking out from the back of the stage.
