According to Bruce Spizer, author of Songs, Pictures, and Storie of the Fabulous Beatles on Vee-Jay, 79,169 mono copies and 2,202 stereo copies were shipped out to store before the album was given a temporary injunction for issuing The Beatles' product on January 15. This first edition included Love Me Do and Ask Me Why, both of which were omitted from version two of the LP.
