Liverpool city council announces that it has come to an agreement with church authorities regarding the stage where The Quarry Men performed. It will be put into storage at an "undisclosed location while talks are held to find a permanent home," reported the BBC. The year before, the church had tried to sell the stage off to "Sticky Finger's Cafe", but they would not pay the 50,000 pounds they were asking for. After the auction, Liverpool city council decided to save the stage. "The days are long gone when the city council turned a blind eye to its heritage by allowing places like the Cavern to be demolished," said Councillor Mike Storey. "We will never let that happen again. It was on this very spot that one of the most successful musical partnerships in history first began. This stage is an important part of The Beatles legend - Liverpool without the Beatles would be like Stratford without Shakespeare."
