I've Got a Feeling is a song off The Beatles' 1970 album Let It Be. It was written by both John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

Writing

The song is a combination of two unfinished songs, Paul's I've Got a Feeling and John's Everybody Had A Hard Year. It was the first song that John and Paul actually collaborated on since A Day In The Life, and it would turn out to be the last. They wrote it at Paul's house on Cavendish Avenue in London. The two song sections contrast with the two Beatles' life qualities, as Paul was happy to be with Linda and John had had a "hard year," with Yoko's miscarriage and his drug bust.

Recording

The song was first played during the Get Back sessions on January 22, 1969, which was their first session at Apple Studios after rehearsing at Twickenham Film Studios. More takes were recorded over the next two days. The version included on Anthology 3 was recorded on January 23. A version from January 24 was included on early Get Back acetates. They recorded more takes on January 27 and January 28, though the LP version was recorded live on the Apple rooftop on January 30, 1969, where they played two performances of, the first of which was featured on both the LP and film. A composite of the two rooftop performances appears on the 2003 album Let It Be... Naked.

In The Movie Let It Be

In the movie Let It Be, there is a skit where John jokingly changes Paul's lyrics to "I've got a hard on," prompting Paul to change John's part to "Everybody had a hard on," to which John replied "except for me and my monkey."
