George, when asked how he would call his new song simply said "I don't know" and that's how the song was titled for a brief time during recording sessions.

Originally Geoff Emerick called it Laxton's Superb.

I Don't Know was also the name of an unrelated Beatles song recorded in 1960 during the rehearsals at Paul's house.
