Original Version
Ray Charles released I Got a Woman as a single in December 1954. However, The Beatles seem to be influenced more by Elvis Presley's 1956 cover version, which appeared on his first British album, Rock 'N' Roll No. 1.
The Beatles Versions
The Beatles had been playing the song live since before they had been signed to EMI, although the first recorded version is from July 16, 1963, when The Beatles played it at the BBC Paris Theatre in London for the ninth Pop Goes The Beatles program. This version was broadcast on August 13 and was included on the 1994 compilation Live at the BBC. They performed it again for the show Saturday Club on March 31, 1964 at the Playhouse Theatre in London. It was broadcast on April 4 and is still only available through bootlegs. This version is faster, does not include the start-stop rhythms, and does not include the delayed appearance of drums.
