Short description John Lennon, along with the other Beatles, apologizes for his Jesus comment in Chicago.
Location Astor Towers Hotel, Chicago, Illinois, USA

The Beatles flew to the U.S. for their final U.S. tour from London Airport. They landed at Boston and switched planes to go to Chicago, ariving at 4:55 PM. Seeing that they would perform the next day, they held a press conference. This press conference was different from most, though, as much of the time was spent apologizing for John's "Beatles are more popular than Jesus" comment. As always, the press conference was recorded by local radio and TV stations. This one, however, was different in that it gained worldwide interest so parts of it were screened around the world. In the U.S., the three TV networks, ABC, CBS, and NBC all aired programs pertaining to the press conference that evening. In Britain, Independent Television News used this and other footage to compile a Reporting '66 program dedicated to The Beatles' current (and, as it turned out, last) concert tour. This was shown on August 25 in the London area from 6:07 to 6:35 PM.
