Lend Me Your Comb was first released in 1956 as the B-Side of his single Glad All Over.

The Beatles Version

The Beatles first covered Lend Me Your Comb in their live sets before they were famous. In fact, a recording from December 28, 1962 exists. The recording was recorded towards the end of nearly two weeks at the Star-Club. This recording has circulated on bootlegs since 1977. The best-known version was recorded at Maida Vale Studios on July 2, 1963 for the program Pop Goes The Beatles. It was broadcast on July 16. The band played six songs. Four of these songs - That's Alright (Mama), Carol, Soldier Of Love and Clarabella - were released on the 1994 compilation Live at the BBC. There's A Place, the only Lennon/McCartney original played in the program, was not included on Live at the BBC and has yet to be legitimately released. Though Live at the BBC emphasized including songs not available on legitimate releases, for some reason, Lend Me Your Comb was not included. Other songs - such as Beautiful Dreamer, A Picture Of You, a rendition of Happy Birthday, Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport with Rolf Harris, Dream Baby (How Long Must I Dream?), and I'm Talking About You - have also not been included on Live at the BBC. Lend Me Your Comb, however, was later released on the 1995 rarities compilation Anthology 1.
