Short description Performance at The Morgue Skiffle Cellar.
Location Liverpool
The Quarrymen played at the opening of The Morgue Skiffle Cellar, owned by Alan Caldwell, who himself had a band, Al Caldwell's Texans. This band would later have Ringo Starr as a member. After that, they changed their name to Rory Storm and The Hurricanes. On this night, several local skiffle groups, such as The Quarrymen and Al Caldwell's Texans performed, starting at 7:30. The Morgue Skiffle Cellar was in the cellar of a victorian house. The club could hold roughly 100 people. There was not much illumination in the cellar, and a fan provided the only fresh air. The club, because of the danger of keeping so many people in such an unsuitable environment, was not open for long. The police closed the club down temporarily for inspection on April 1, permanently closing it down on April 22. Bands would always perform on Tuesdays, though no records exist to say which groups played when. It can be assumed, however, that The Quarrymen must have returned several times.
