Original Version
The first known version was recorded by blues pianist Piano Red under the pseudonym Dr. Feelgood and The Interns. It was the B-Side of Dr. Feelgood, a minor R&B hit in 1962. The Beatles played this song live since it was released.
Recording
The Beatles' version was first recorded on August 14, 1964, when they taped four takes. The fourth take was considered best from this day and for a while was intended to go on the album. A combination of Takes 1 and 4 appear on Anthology 1. The Beatles did a remake on October 18, when they recorded four more takes. This time, instead of George Harrison's slide guitar solo featured on the previous four takes, there was an organ solo played by Paul McCartney.
