Writing
John had written Child Of Nature in India while being taught meditation by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The same lecture that had inspired Paul's Mother Nature's Son inspired this song. John told Playboy in 1980, "That was from a lecture of Maharishi where he was talking about nature, and I had a piece called I'm Just A Child Of Nature, which turned into Jealous Guy years later. Both inspired from the same lecture of Maharishi."
Recording
Child Of Nature was never properly recorded. During May 1968, The Beatles recorded several demos for the album that would become The Beatles, at Kinfauns, George's house in Esher. Among those were this song. They never even attempted to record this song in a studio. The next recorded version was during the first Get Back session on January 2, 1969 in Twickenham Film Studios. John had changed the opening line from "On the road to Rishikesh" to "On the road to Marrakesh." This version was included on the bonus disc of early copies of Let It Be... Naked. The final attempt and the only full-band attempt was recorded during the Get Back sessions at Apple Studios on 3 Savile Row on January 24, 1969.
