According to the 1984 Polydor CD The first recording session was made between June 22 and 23, 1961

Place  : Harburg, Friedrich Ebert Halle in Hamburg

Producer : Bert Kaempfert

Engineer : Karl Hinze

The Beatles were signed with the producer for a one year contract (signed on July 1 1961 (renewable on application) After the recording the tapes went to Polydor. However other source claim that Kaemfert was already under contract with Polydor.

Very few information is available for this recording session. It is known that The Beatles (at this time, The Beatles were John, Paul, George, Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best) recorded songs backing Tony Sheridan and that at the end of the session they were allowed to record two songs without Tony (that is, Ain't She Sweet and Cry For A Shadow). At this time they were under contract with Bert Kaempfert, an independent producer who sent the tapes to Polydor.

Stuart Sutcliffe was only an observer during these sessions, probably because of his lack of bass skills.
