On April 3, 1963, The Beatles made their first appearance on the BBC program Easy Beat. This program, hosted by Brian Matthew, was taped weekly in front of an audience of teenagers in the Playhouse Theatre in London. The Beatles began rehearsal at 5:30 PM and taped from 8:30 to 9:45 PM. This program was later transmitted from 10:31 to 11:30 AM on April 7. They played Please Please Me, Misery, and From Me To You. Besides performing music, John ad Paul also participated in "Going Up" with Laura Lee and Clare O'Rourke. This program featured their reviews of new records by Bert Weedon, Cleo Laine, The Vernons Girls, and Tommy Roe. For participating, John and Paul each received a guinea in cash before leaving the studio.
