Short description Recording Session. Songs Recorded: Across the Universe.
Location Abbey Road Studios

A 2:30 PM to 2:00 AM session. From 2:30 to 5:30 PM, six takes, numbered one to seven (There was no Take Three), of the basic track for Across the Universe were recorded. From 8:00 PM to 2:30 AM, they taped overdubs for the song. John had recorded his vocals with the tape recorder running slow so his vocals would be sped up on the recording. One thing John and Paul realized was that they needed falsetto harmonies for the song. Because they were recordng on a Sunday, it would be difficult to find some singers for the recording without arranging beforehand. So, Paul went out and got two fans from outside of EMI studios. They were 16-year-old Lizzie Bravo, who was from Brazil and temporarily living in London, and 17-year-old Gaylen Pease, who lived in London. After they recorded their harmonies, they had to leave the studio so The Beatles could record more overdubs. One of these was 'Hums Wild,' an edit piece consisting of fifteen seconds worth of humming, overdubbed multiple times. Another two of these overdubs were guitar and a harp-like sound. The tape box said that they were to be played backwards in the recording. They were temporarily included in the song, but later edited out.
