Short description Final group recording session.
Location Abbey Road Studios

This was the last recording session for the group, who were now without John. John was on holiday in Denmark at the time. The last EMI recording session with all four Beatles present was on August 20, 1969. The Beatles had not previously formally recorded I Me Mine, contrary to popular belief. There is a sequence in the Let It Be film in Twickenham Film Studios where George Harrison plays the song on acoustic guitar, having written it in five minutes at his flat the night before. Because of this, some mistake I Me Mine as having been previously recorded. However, nothing in the Get Back sessions at Twickenham was formally recorded. In fact, nothing until January 22 at Apple Studios was formally recorded. I Me Mine was not played at Apple Studios at all. Having seen that George's acoustic version of I Me Mine was in a rough cut of the film, Paul, George, and Ringo decided to record this song for inclusion on the Get Back LP, as it was still called. They worked from 2:30 PM to 12:15 AM, recording sixteen takes of the basic track, which included George playing acoustic guitar and singing a guide vocal, Paul playing bass, and Ringo playing drums. Onto this, they overdubbed electric piano, electric guitar, lead vocals, backing vocals, organ, and a second acoustic guitar. The "best" master version was Take 16, which was 1:34 in length. Producer Phil Spector later added overdubs, re-produced, and re-edited the song so it would equal 2:25. Before Take 12, The Beatles jammed a version of the Buddy Holly song Peggy Sue Got Married, which has not been released or bootlegged. An instrumental jam was also recorded between Takes 6 and 7.
