Short description The Beatles make their first appearance on the show Ready, Steady, Go!.
Location Studio Nine, Television House, Kingsway, London

The Beatles made their debut appearance on Ready, Steady, Go! on this date. Ready, Steady, Go! was an influential program in the 1960's in Britain. The show broadcast on Friday evenings, provoking the slogan 'The Weekend Starts Here!'. This edition, like most editions until March 26, 1965, was broadcast live, although the performers always lip-synched to the music. It was broadcast from Studio Nine at the Television House headquarters of London's weekday ITV franchise Associated-Rediffusion, situated by the Aldwych. The series began on August 2, but it was not broadcast completely around Britain until a few months later. After an afternoon camera rehearsal, The Beatles "performed" three songs on the program, Twist And Shout, I'll Get You (Both obvious examples of lip-synching, as John did not pretend to play harmonica, though it is apparent on the recordings), and She Loves You. Teenagers danced around The Beatles' podium while they performed. They were also interviewed by host Keith Fordyce and Dusty Springfield. At one point in the interview, John cheekily asks Springfield to reveal her scabs. This program was transmitted from 6:15 to 7:00 PM. The edition of Ready, Steady, Go! from November 8 rebroadcast The Beatles' performace of She Loves You from this date. A special edition broadcast on December 31 (subtitled 'The New Year Starts Here') broadcast from 11:15 PM to 12:15 AM repeated the whole three-song set.
