Short description Taping for the TV special The Beatles In Nederland.
Location Cafe-Restaurant Treslong, Vosselaan, Hillegom, The Netherlands

The Beatles had arrived in Holland at 1:00 PM that day, giving a press conference at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam. They then went to begin taping for the TV special "The Beatles In Nederland," a program for VARA-tv. They drove South, to Hillegom, arriving at 4:00 PM. For the special, they played in a restaurant and theatre which was often used by TV companies. Rehearsals began at 5:30 PM and the actual taping began at 8:00 PM. The program was split into two parts, the first of which was being interviewed by the 150-member audience. Herman Stok read the questions, which were then translated into English by Berend Boudewijn. From there, the group answered them. The second part of the program was a "live" performance. In reality, they were just lip-synching to the original recordings, although their microphones were on if they felt the need to add new vocals. The guitars were also plugged in, but the amplifiers were not turned on. They played Twist And Shout, followed by All My Loving and Roll Over Beethoven. During Long Tall Sally, the next song, the mostly-male dancing audience moved toward the stage. They got even closer during She Loves You. John, Paul, and George were completely surrounded when they played Can't Buy Me Love. The problem had gotten so out of hand that Mal Evans, Neil Aspinall, and Derek Taylor tried to clear the crowd. This proved hopeless, so they instead directed The Beatles to get offstage. While The Beatles had left the stage, the music continued to play, with Ringo's substitute, Jimmy Nicol still playing along. They edited this performance with news footage of The Beatles taking a canal trip around Amsterdam and broadcast it as The Beatles In Nederland on the network Nederland 1 on June 8. It was repeated on July 18.
