Original Version
The Coasters originally recorded Three Cool Cats and released it as the B-Side to their single Charlie Brown.
The Beatles Version
The Beatles played this song along with several others while auditioning for a contract for Decca Records on January 1, 1962. In the Beatles' arrangement of the song, George Harrison sings lead vocals while John Lennon and Paul McCartney provide comedic voices. In addition to this song, The Beatles also played two other songs by The Coasters at the Decca audition: Searchin' and Besame Mucho. The Beatles once again performed Three Cool Cats on January 29, 1969, during a "Get Back" session at Apple Studios on Savile Row in London. This was the day before their famous rooftop concert, so they rehearsed a number of old rock and roll songs beforehand. The 1969 version is much slower than the original 1962 version.
