Writing

The song was written as a parody of the vocal group The Ink Spots. The song is an early indicator of John's wordplay which would later go into his two books, In His Own Write and A Spaniard In The Works. In the song, he sings,

"My darling,
When you burnt that toast the other morning
I, I looked into your eyes
And I could see that National Health eyeball
And I love you
Like I've never done
Like I've never done before"

Recording

The only surviving recording of this song was taped at Paul's house on 20 Forthlin Road in mid-1960. These recordings are the only circulating ones with Stuart Sutcliffe on bass. Three other songs from these 1960 rehearsals (out of at least twenty-nine more) were included on the 1995 compilation Anthology 1, the others being Hallelujah, I Love Her So and Cayenne.
