Writing

You Like Me Too Much was originally intended for the film Help!, but it was dropped in favor of another Harrison composition, I Need You. Instead, You Like Me Too Much was included on the non-soundtrack side of the album. This song was most likely written about George's relationship with future wife Pattie Boyd. It was Harrison's third composition for The Beatles, the previous ones being 1963's Don't Bother Me and 1965's I Need You.

Recording

You Like Me Too Much was recorded in eight takes on February 17, 1965. George's lead vocals were double-tracked. Paul McCartney's bass was also overdubbed later on. Just like The Night Before, which had been recorded earlier in that session, John Lennon played a Hohner Pianet electric piano. Paul McCartney and George Martin played the intro at the same time on the same grand piano.
